Small businesses can change the world with nothing more than a great strength of will and a large and untamable imagination. Sadly, we live in an age where huge, monolithic companies dominate markets, and small businesses struggle to survive. Those of us at SumAll knew there had to be something we could do to help. This is our story.
Almost six years ago, SumAll was founded. Our mission was to give small businesses access to their data for free. We believed that if we could do that, everyone, not just large enterprises, would have the data they needed to improve. For five years, we succeeded. We provided businesses unrestricted access to their data and we never charged a dime. We were growing daily, with over 500,000 users benefiting from our service. We truly believed we had solved the problem of providing free data. As it turns out, we were wrong.
Just like our user base, our costs, too, were growing. Our expenses eventually drove us to the edge of a cliff and a year ago, we made a decision that would end up haunting us for months. We turned off the free plan and switched to a paid subscription.
It was a dark time for SumAll. In our hearts, we knew that we had failed our mission and let down our small business families. Instead of helping, we were charging them money for something we honestly believed should be free. We realized we had to do whatever we could to bring back our free service. We searched endlessly for a solution that allowed us to provide free data and was cost effective. There were times when it might have been easier to just give up, but we were determined.
After countless eighty hour weeks, we did it. We found a way to lower our costs, find long term support, and bring our free service back and it will be here soon! In the coming weeks, we will be sending out invitations to join us again and accounts will be turning back on. Our goal is to be back 100% by May 8th, our 6 year anniversary.
We are incredibly excited to offer our free service again. We also want to say thank you to everyone who supported us through the past year, our friends and family, who loved us even while we worked like crazy, our customers who stayed with us, and all the small businesses out there making a difference and being our motivation to succeed.
